I was put in touch with Hopgood Ganim by a family friend for our wills & estate matter. We were put in touch with Paige Edwards and let me tell you - Paige is outstanding. She works hard and gave 1000% to our case. Whatever was required for the case - Paige would do even outside of business hours. We had a complex matter and it was a lot of hard work. We ended up getting to court and Paige also helped us source a fantastic Barrister. Both of them put in the hard work and long story short - we won our case. I’m a former client of HG Property, Finance and Construction engaging them over 5 years to represent my property development business. That was until I was referred to HG Private to draft my Binding Financial Agreement (BFA). To streamline the process, I provided at engagement a concise BFA by Cooper Grace Ward to frame expectations for length and detail and agreed terms summarised in 7 dot points. $15,000 and 12+ months later, I was left with a complex, verbose, 150 page paperweight thats impossible to navigate and doesn’t reflect our expectations. As a result of the BFA length in a time based billing industry, my fiancée was quoted a further $10k+ to review taking projected cost of the process close to $25k to reach resolution. We were thus forced to write off the expense and unworkable agreement drafted by HG Private, who refused to review and stopped responding after issues were raised. Instead, we redrafted a new agreement that reflects what my fiancée and I wanted. A clear, concise, easy to read and understand document that gives both sides peace of mind. I’m no longer a client of HG in any capacity after being left in an untenable position by those I engaged as ‘specialists’ at HG Private. In summary, avoid HG Private and Geoff Wilson.

I conducted a review of HopgoodGanim a year ago, this serves as a follow-up assessment—an aspect that has been lacking on their part over the past year. It is customary to respond to follow-up emails within a reasonable timeframe and to address any inaccuracies promptly. Despite escalating the matter and highlighting the evident inaccuracies, there seems to be a persistent disregard for ensuring the accuracy of information. This situation brings to mind the old Japanese proverb, "the fish rots from the head down". Based on my experience, I would advise exercising caution in dealing with them.

Their rates card is high and yet somehow you end up spending less money. Why is that? well they care more about their reputation and quality then screwing you over. And with our joke of a family court system, you need a good trusted lawyer. They scope out from the very beginning what it will cost you depending on which path the lovely court system takes you down. Having scope and good estimates has allowed me to save. But the best part. They get results. Don’t risk going with what seems like a cheaper lawyer. The quality they provided meant in the long run it has been cheaper, more supportive, more professional and a far less painful process.
