Evidence of a genuine and continuing relationship is central. Well-prepared applications reduce delays.
Partner visas keep families together. Applications are costly and evidence-heavy, so getting them right first time matters.
Partner visas are usually a two-stage process, temporary then permanent. Applicants must show a genuine and continuing relationship, and sponsors must meet sponsorship requirements.
Understand the next step
Describe the proposed pathway and relationship history without assuming eligibility from the relationship alone. Ask which evidence is relevant to the particular application.
Confirm professional and government charges separately and do not rely on a promised outcome.
An Albany-based search can help Great Southern clients find a starting point for personal and business advice. For a rural property or estate, identify the assets, entities and people involved before requesting a quote.
For partner & family visas, ask which parts of the work the firm handles itself and whether it has relevant WA experience. Let the lawyer know if a property, employer, other party or existing proceeding is outside Great Southern. Your home address alone does not determine the applicable process.
Gather identity documents, visa records, decision letters and application history. Confirm who will give the advice and their scope of work.
Ask which requirements and evidence need assessment, including translations or reports. No provider can guarantee the application outcome.
Agree who receives correspondence and tracks requests. Keep a complete copy of lodged material and understand what you approve before submission.
Separate professional fees from government charges, translations and other expenses. Preparing an application does not necessarily include a review or court proceeding.
Ask for a written scope identifying the work you are authorising, the person responsible and when costs will be reviewed. If you only want advice on one step, say so before the firm begins wider work.
Provide expiry dates and the entire decision letter immediately. Review rights and dates depend on the particular decision and circumstances.
Western Australia is the only state with its own family court: the Family Court of Western Australia hears parenting and property matters for both married and de facto couples. Other matters start in the Magistrates Court, with the District and Supreme Courts for serious cases, and the State Administrative Tribunal for planning, guardianship and many licensing reviews. Lawyers are admitted and regulated by the Legal Practice Board.
